About US

We're Kelly and Matt from San Diego, California. We love travel and really fell in love with each other while traveling. Since early in our relationship, we both wanted to live abroad and, since getting married in 2015, that wanderlust has only grown stronger. For 2018, we were finally able to put our dream into motion as we have embarked on spending a year on foreign soils, seeing and tasting as much of the world as we can while working as digital nomads for our very understanding employers.

A little about Matt  

I'm the researching, budgeting, planning, spreadsheet-making analytical brains behind the pair. Before I met Kelly, I had traveled to several countries and found that my detailed planning style paid dividends in lowered costs but also higher value, especially by avoiding areas that most would call tourist traps. I currently work remotely for a couple venture-backed start-up companies and am thrilled to have the opportunity to 'digitally commute' while traveling.

A little about Kelly  

I'm always thinking creatively and looking for the next 'life changing' meal. As a published author and award winning filmmaker I find knowing the history, legends and myths behind locations we visit to be far more intriguing than taking a photo with Matt and then running off to the next destination. I want to feel the essence of a place in my bones so that years from now I can still recall the scents, sounds and scenery.  I also work as a digital nomad and enjoy the freedom it gives us to go on micro-adventures in between work projects.

We both grew up as fans of Star Trek - and the phrase "to boldly go where no man has gone before" fueled our wanderlust spirit as children. Boldly Go Travel was conjured from this sense of exploration and adventure. As adults, we have now traveled to over twelve countries together (Kelly - 30 countries before turning 30; and Matt - 20). Now, our mission has changed - we have left our life of comfort for a year, seeking out new experiences in locations we have never visited. We boldly go...and will report our encounters here.
